It all began at “Lula Jane’s Bakery” located on Elm Street in East Waco (2 blocks north/east of the Brazos River) and a personal project close to the heart of Nancy Grayson. Now, just blocks from the bakery, Nancy’s begun building charming cottages true to the era of the neighborhood, 1880-1940, but outfitted with all the modern conveniences. Kevin and I like Lula Jane’s and we enjoy visiting with Nancy and Bob, her husband. One day the conversation turned to the need for staging Cottage No. 1. We’d never staged a house before but I have a design background and we refinish vintage furniture so it seemed like a natural fit. We kept it simple and incorporated just enough pieces to show scale and functionality. Cottage No. 1 sold quickly and Cottage No. 2 is currently under construction—it’s larger and has a wonderful floor plan. These cottages represent thoughtful, respectful new construction in a historic Waco neighborhood that’s had huge setbacks over the years—it’s a hopeful kind of thing and cedarstudio is honored to have been a small part of it.
